About
Spanning a range of subjects, Catherine Lucas’s paintings draw you into their center evoking a sense of tranquility, resolve, and presence.
Her compositions are built upon many layers of transparent and opaque passages of paint lending sensual quality to their surfaces. The essence of her subjects is expressed through their fine detail. It’s through the solidity of her subjects, that Catherine strives blend the ethereal with the material, capturing the transpersonal state of being.
Her figurative works are imbued with introspection, strength and grace using the body as the narrative. Inclusively, her work explores themes of transfiguration, metamorphosis, initiation, and rebirth, all pertaining to a spiritual alchemy and wholeness of being.

Born into a traveling military family at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia, Catherine currently lives and works in Naples Florida. She received her BFA from Hofstra University, and her MFA from New York Academy Of Art, Graduate School Of Figurative Art. In 2010, Catherine was awarded the Hudson River School Fellowship through the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York.
An award winning artist, Catherine exhibits her work nationally in galleries and museums through national and international juried exhibitions.
